Fundraising Cadets fundraise to walk German Mountains

Huw Irranca-Davies MP is proud to support the Dyfed & Glamorgan Army Cadet Force (ACF) as it looks to raise funds for a group walk of the Bavarian Mountains in Germany in October.

The aim of the expedition is to enable cadets to obtain their Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award and/or their Summer Mountain Proficiency Certificate.  Funding for this worthwhile opportunity is limited, and to raise money everyone who is going to Germany is participating in a North to South Wales Bike Ride over August bank holiday weekend.

Huw is encouraging anyone who wishes to sponsor this worthy event, which inspires great qualities in all who take part, to contact the Dyfed & Glamorgan Army Cadet Force at the TA Centre in Bridgend, CF31 1PA.

Colonel John Barry Davies OBE, an ACF representative, said of the event: “The Army Cadet Force has been involved with the Duke of Edinburgh Award for many years and develops different skills, including leadership and service to others.  This is another event that will add to those skills, which are desired by employers.”

Huw Irranca-Davies said: “The work done by the Army Cadet Force with our young people is to be admired and the young people themselves can be extremely proud of their efforts, particularly as they strive to achieve their goal of walking the Bavarian Mountains.”

18 Members from Dyfed & Glamorgan attended the Introduction to the Award (IntoDofE) course on Friday and Saturday 3/4th December 2010, and successfully passed, and were presented with their certificates.
On Sunday the 5th all 18 attended the Expedition Assessors Accreditation, which after further training and supported assessment will allow them to assess Bronze and Silver groups doing their DofE Expedition.
